Upgrade from ver 3

Please read this entire page before proceeding, then follow the steps in the right hand column if you decide to proceed.

Upgrading from ScriptBase 3

This page is for existing users of ScriptBase who are interested in upgrading to the latest version. At the present time, this is ScriptBase 3 users considering an upgrade to ScriptBase 4.

Version 4 of ScriptBase is a major revision and requires paymenent of an upgrade fee if you purchased ScriptBase more than one year ago.

The license 'structure' has also changed dramaticaly, with the size of license fee being dependent on how many current users you need the system to prescribe for. These range from the 'entry level' license for a single prescriber with up to 40 clients, through to a license for a whole DAT area.

As an upgrader from version 3, you can decide which of the new licenses you wish to step into for version 4. This is entirely up to you, with the following provisos:

Your installation will 'permanently' be at that licensing level, so if you decide you need a support / upgrade contract in future years this will be at the support / upgrade fee for that type of license.

If you have a standalone license and want to 'jump' to a network license this can be done, but please contact us for a quote.

How much will it cost?

See the support fee schedule, the cost of upgrading is the same as the one year upgrade / support fee (which is indeed what you are actualy purchasing, a year of updates and supports).

Step 1 Prepare for Upgrade

The upgrade should preserve all your data. It is however a one way process and if something goes wrong you will not be able to carry on using the older version unless you have taken a full backup. As the new version introduces a new backup engine, use another backup system, or simply make a copy of the entire c:\scriptbase3 or c:\sbase directory using windows explorer. It is also recommended that you run the 'repair tables' utility to ensure your data is clean and tidy before the upgrade.

Step 1 Download Upgrade

The installation file is available from the download page. Follow the instructions on that page to get your hands on the latest version of ScriptBase. You need to get this to the machine running ScriptBase, which might mean copying it to a floppy or cdrom.

Step 3 Install Upgrade

You will probably need to be logged into the computer with Administrator privalages in order to install ScriptBase 4; this is especialy the case with XP / Vista.

Check ScriptBase is not running (if in doubt, reboot the machine). Run the installation file on the machine with your old version of ScriptBase, and follow on screen instructions. The upgrade process is more complicated than with previous versions. This is due to the new encryption system and also changes to the database to support multiple dose sizes. If you have been running ScriptBase for several years, it many take many hours to complete (though the process can run un-attended). When finished, you will be asked to register the upgrade.

Step 4 Register Upgrade

When upgrading from ScriptBase 3 to 4, the system will check whether you are entitled to a free upgrade. If you are not, the new version will run as a trial version to allow time to process payment for the new upgrade.
