Compatability with Norton Antivirus Recent versions of Norton Antivirus software from Synmantec can cause problems with ScriptBase ,specifically with respect to temporary tables created by ScriptBase in a temporary files folder on a local drive. Norton deems any file created with the extension of .dat (the default ScriptBase file extension for tables) in the temporary files folder as needing to be scanned and quarantined, and this can cause two errors to occur:: DBISAM_OSENOENT or DBISAM_OSEACCESS these may show as 11013 or 11010. It is possible to configure Norton to exclude files with the .dat extension which should provide a good solution. Data corruption on Win2k Networks There is a problem with the SMB protocol in the Windows 2000 operating system that can cause problems with data corruption if it is being used as a file server, such as would be the case if storing a shared ScriptBase database in such a location. Please use the following link to find out more details on the problem and get a hotfix to the problem. Opportunistic locking on NT/2k/2003 server This link explains how Opportunistic Locking works on a Microsoft Windows NT or 2000/2003 server. Win 95 Network Problems There are problems with several versions of the network redirector provided with the Windows 95 Microsoft Client for Microsoft Networks that can cause data corruption in ScriptBase when the data resides on a shared Windows 95 server. One of the problems occurs when the network redirector (vredir.vxd) improperly caches server data locally and can cause various problems such as key violation exceptions with auto-increment primary keys and others that should never occur. If you are experiencing random problems with data corruption when sharing tables in a Windows 95-only environment then please download the updated network redirector and apply the update to all Windows 95 machines on the network. You can find out more information from Microsoft regarding this issue by clicking this link: Possible network slowdown on NT If you have NT Service Pack 4, 5, 6, or 6a and experience sluggish network performance click here. Problems with Novel Networks There is a problem with the 4.9 version of the Netware client for Windows NT/2000/XP that causes a general lock failure when used with ScriptBase. The problem has to do with the 4.9 client not allowing the last byte in a 4 gigabyte range to be locked. This is exactly what ScriptBase attempts to lock when performing locking in certain cases. The solution is to download the 4.9 SP1 patch available through this link. More information is here. |
